Airam Hernandez
Born in Tenerife, lyric-coloratura tenor Airam Hernández began his musical training as a French horn player at the Tenerife Conservatory before graduating with honors in vocal performance from the Liceu Conservatory in Barcelona.
A former member of the Zurich Opera ensemble, he performed in operas including Falstaff, La Traviata, Lucia di Lammermoor, Idomeneo, Martinů’s Juliette, and Manfred Trojahn’s Orest.
His recent performances include Leicester in Maria Stuarda at Teatro Real de Madrid, Ismaele in Nabucco at Opéra de Lausanne, Grigori in Boris Godunov at Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse and Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris, Verdi’s Requiem at Philharmonie Paris, Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis at Musikverein in Vienna, Jason in Médée at Opera Narodowa in Warsaw, and Rodolfo in La Bohème at Fundación Baluarte in Pamplona.
Hernández’s versatile repertoire encompasses Tamino in Die Zauberflöte (Oviedo), Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni (Teatro Real de Madrid), Ulysse in Fauré’s Pénélope (Toulouse), Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor (Opéra de Lausanne with Jesús López Cobos, and Cologne), Pollione in Norma (Toulouse, Liceu in Barcelona, and Festival della Valle d’Itria in Martina Franca with Fabio Luisi), Alfredo in La Traviata (La Fenice in Venice, Hamburg, Dortmund, and Luxembourg with Teodor Currentzis), Fenton in Falstaff (Dallas Opera), Tebaldo in I Capuleti e i Montecchi (Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville), Arcadio in Catán’s Florencia en el Amazonas (Tenerife), Beethoven’s Christus am Ölberge (San Sebastian Musical Fortnight). He performed the title role in the world premiere of Liszt’s Sardanapalo with the Staatskapelle Weimar, and as Federico García Lorca in the world premiere of De Pablo’s El Abrecartas at Teatro Real de Madrid.
In 2019, he took on the title role in Micha Hamel’s world premiere of Caruso a Cuba in Amsterdam, earning the Schaunard Award for Best Individual Performance of the Year in the Netherlands.
He has performed recitals in Spain, Portugal, Andorra, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Hungary, Bulgaria, Sweden, France, Italy, China and Japan.
Upcoming engagements include Carlo VII in Giovanna d’Arco in Tenerife, Erik in Der fliegende Holländer in Toulouse, Das Lied von der Erde in Stuttgart, and debuts as Don José in Carmen, Romeo in Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette, Walther in Tannhäuser, and Walter in Weinberg’s The Passenger.
